What politics can do to MF
The Pitfalls of Capitalism, Politics & the Entertainment Media Complex.
I've lived it. I've seen what politics can do to a MF. While so many were isolated during the pandemic, over here in farmland nothing changed at all. It's almost like only one political party chose to isolate for the last year and I've been hanging with the other political party out here in farmland and so I didn't even notice what had happened.
That's when it hit me, How have I been contributing to the overall partisanship in this country? No matter how much I used to be entertained by politics it was time for me to lead by example and get the hell out of politics in the hopes of encouraging my liberal friends to do the same.
Politics isn't helping any of us okay? Sure it's Entertainment but it's just that, Entertainment…
Now some of you might be wanting to ask me:
Rather than evade the world by ignoring the news, shouldn’t you just approach the news objectively?
To which I would say, Watching News Entertainment is not you confronting the World. 99.9% of it has nothing to do with you anyways, it is almost purely for entertainment value. You do not live a fulfilling life by becoming engrossed in other peoples problems. Unless of course you are signing up for some mission work to go help those people in the News. If you did you would soon find that more often than not the News itself is made up whole-cloth or exaggerated to sell Cialis commercials. (Hat tip to Fox News!)
Capitalists & the Entertainment Media Complex.
I see an error that some people make all the time, it is quite obvious, so I am not sure why such otherwise intelligent people make this mistakes so often. Heck, I used to make this same mistake everyday.
Hand-wringing over the News.
Often Capitalists want to blame our culture, our education system, basically everything BUT the Capitalism that they champion, for the sorry state of the News Media today. Maybe a better question is, why do they even call this stuff News?
“News” is a loaded and incorrect term. After-all, the News Media has products to sell, it would be better off to regard it as “Entertainment”. It is designed to capture and keep eye-balls, and to sell products. And apparently it is working, even smart people keep watching it.
Marketing and running a Business relies on eye-balls, advertisers, people to be entertained to keep watching. Each day, each week, the Entertainers & Capitalists that work for and own media companies need a new “Train-wreck” to sell the people. The viewers really like the dopamine rush they get each day from watching this train-wreck unfold. Each news cycle offers a new “Soap Opera” for boomers & millennials to enjoy.
All the meanwhile, some of the viewers actually think they are learning something about what is happening in their world when in reality, they are simply consumers of a product, an entertainment product which 99.9% of the time has zero affect on their own lives. But they really enjoy the dopamine rush they get each day from it. It tickles their eyes and ears and entertains them while selling them products.
Blame our culture, Blame our education institutions. Anything but blaming the need to derive monetary gain from delivering entertainment to consumers. Perhaps there is some blame for all of it because it seems the only people immune from the issues I am describing are people who built their own “Galt’s Gulch” World centuries ago. The Amish.
But at some point, can’t you blame yourself for buying & watching the Capitalists products every day while incorrectly thinking you are watching informative news?
Society of the Spectacle.
We have turned into a Society of the Spectacle. We view each other as spectators, We ask each other; “Did you see the latest train-wreck?” Did you watch it? What are your thoughts on the daily spectacle?
Whats that? People are freezing and dying in Texas…
forget that, next story…
Whats that? Suez Canal got blocked?
forget it, next story…
Whats that? Some pipeline got hacked…
old news, next story…
What’s that? 15 days to flatten the curve?
wow that is really old, we’ve moved on already…
The endless train-wreck. We have become passive spectators of a soap opera called, The Media Complex of Life. You must tune it out, because with the endless train-wreck they are simply controlling your mind like a virus.
Now this point I am making would be obvious to most people even with a low-grade education, but since we enjoy these dopamine rushes (with really slick video montages!) even the most educated amongst us are not immune from the marketing schtick. Plot Twist, I actually speak from a place of repentance…
I practically invented the Avid Deko 3000.
Oh boy, was it the Best Season Yet Or What!
Now we can criticize the Media Complex or education system all we want, surely they are to blame too, but the Capitalists have products to sell and if it bleeds it leads and so of course each week we will have a new train-wreck to sell to the people. Who doesn’t enjoy watching or reading about a good disaster every once and awhile paired with some slick on-air graphics? The only way to fight against it is to turn off the news & phone notifications, ie: stop using their product…
As long as boomers and their younger counterparts keep consuming the news, the Capitalists will keep you entertained. Perhaps the better question is, why would anyone pay for all of this?
The Neuroses of the Boomers taught me to become a Farmer
There are so many mind-viruses out there in the world. Be careful of which one you choose to contract. You have a choice. Not all mind-viruses are equal ie: some are good mind-viruses and some are really bad ones.
There's a certain segment of our population that seems to have a really bad one. The Boomers, And while I criticize the Boomers let's not pretend that the next generation isn’t making the same mistakes. They are.
Boomers spent much of their life working and toiling at jobs that they somewhat disliked so that they could hopefully retire someday and do what they really wanted to later in life. Millennials are proving to do much the same for the most part. As I have said in a previous post, by the time they get to retirement they don't even know what they want to do anymore...
Well here is where farming comes in. What better a mind virus to immerse yourself in than the life of a farmer? Seems to work alright for the Amish. The best part, you no longer need to waste your time with the news that doesn’t affect you, after-all, you have chores to do.
Capitalism has made us soft. It has made us weak. It has turned us from, someone who lives our own lives, to someone who spectates and speculates about the daily narrative of the lives of others. Reject consuming this sort of product. It only serves to weaken, distract and evade you from your own life. Confront your own true life.
