Lots of relatively inexpensive land around, why do would-be farmers buy in a high-tax area? If you look at it as an investment, which I assume a rich kid is capable of doing, you want a decent rate of return.
The "AirBnB Farmer" is unable to move to a rural area for several reasons. First, they would be too far from Modernity and their Bourgeois friends. Sure they could show off on InstaGram, but how could they show off in person so their peers can look at their farm in envy? These types are so much like materialistic "second-handers" that they live vicariously through seeing others gape at what they own.
They see an Urban-Farm as having more a return on investment too, being far from rednecks and stuff. They do not like Rednecks. They think Rural Folk would reduce their property values.
They have all sorts of reasons to rationalize why they become "AirBnB Farmers".
“Sole” instead of “soul.” Forgive me for being a pedantic asshole.
We love pedantic assholes here. Fixed if you Refresh!

Great Question.
