Anyone who is a follower of dissident literature knows all about "The Systems Neatest Trick". But for those who have not delved into revolutionary topics much here is a short summary:
- For the sake of its own efficiency and security, the System needs to bring about deep and radical social changes to match the changed conditions resulting from technological progress.
- The frustration of life under the circumstances imposed by the System leads to rebellious impulses.
- Rebellious impulses are co-opted by the System in the service of the social changes it requires; activists "rebel" against the old and outmoded values that are no longer of use to the System and in favor of the new values that the System needs us to accept.
- In this way rebellious impulses, which otherwise might have been dangerous to the System, are given an outlet that is not only harmless to the System, but useful to it.
- Much of the public resentment resulting from the imposition of social changes is drawn away from the System and its institutions and is directed instead at the radicals who spearhead the social changes.
In short: People have rebellious thoughts. It is only natural for some of us. They say it is the sign of an intelligent child. So the system co-opts this rebellious nature and uses it to reinforce what the system wants. Reinforcing notions like equality (egalitarianism), social & environmental justice (at least when it favors the system to be so), anti-violence & anti-racism. Not to say that some of these ideas are not good in themselves, but any element within a society that makes that society tumultuous and divisive is not good for the system. The systems uses this method as a way of making a generation of rebels think that the system is against these things, when in reality they are not, but the system can use them as a means to distract and entertain the rebel into thinking they are rebellious while they do the systems bidding.
To put it even more bluntly. Rebels always exist in a Society. How then does a System co-opt them into doing the Systems bidding?
That is the "Systems Neatest Trick" if you want to learn more about it of course go straight to the source. (Disclaimer: We are just peace-full Farmers on this blog, like Mennonites! Do not accuse us of promoting other ideas of this fellow.)
Which brings me to my thesis, The Systems 2nd Neatest Trick…
Co-opting Capitalists to do the Systems bidding.
Conservatives and Libertarians fetishize Capitalism. If a private company wants to do something, as long as people want to buy it, and it doesn't harm anyone else, it is the most noble thing on the Earth to these folks.
Capitalism is against equality, anti-egalitarian, it is survival of the fittest on a civilised plane. Therefore it is the best system for Capitalists to display their own awesomeness. Display their plumage like a grand Peacock, so to speak. What better than in a free-market? Any free-market, Capitalism will & should win right?
Let me even point you to my boy, head of the Ayn Rand institute, Yaron Brook. He wrote the book, as only an Ayn Rand spokesperson could: "Equal is Unfair!" With Capitalist spokespersons spouting perennial wisdom like like this who needs Marxist enemies anyways?
Equality is Unfair!
While I do agree with Yaron’s premise, as nothing is more boring than egalitarianism, that is not what this article I am writing is about. What this article is about is a different question itself.
How does this Uber-Capitalist idea, Equality is Unfair! play out in the free market, the free market of IDEAS? How does this idea play out amongst the unwashed masses of a global-infused democracy?
Wait for it…
#CANCEL Yaron Brook, he promotes hate speech.
Yeah that's right, It is a fucking-loser of an idea. Wait a minute, Capitalism actually needs to win in the marketplace of ideas too?
Why the capitalists can't realize that in a free market of ideas their anti-egalitarian ideas are considered literally hate speech & violence is beyond me. They really are a naive bunch.
Marxists promote equality for all, egalitarianism. So in the marketplace of ideas, you know, a stupid notion called Democracy (we are Agrarian Neo-Feudalists for a reason after all! Democracy-Blows!) the Capitalist idea of anti-egalitarianism, the idea of non-equality for all, it is considered hate speech & literal violence by the Marxists and it must be silenced.
When you view it from that point of view, Capitalism is literal-hate-speech. It would be only obvious that in the free market of ideas, companies would choose to silence such hate speech.
This is a pretty neat trick, and we are only half-way through the Systems 2nd Neatest Trick!
Whilst these proponents of anti-egalitarianism get silenced and hoodwinked by their opponents, these same Capitalists with their Hubris, despite being the first to be de-platformed, these Objectivist (Parler/Peikoff), Libertarian & many Conservative Capitalists are the first to defend Big Tech!
In the latter case of the eponymous-Conservative, They may actively pretend to go after big tech but they still support capitalism so it's more just whining about what capitalists are doing with their capital, ala Dennis Prager & faux-conservative (but still devoutly capitalist) David Rubin (Need to pay for surrogate-mothers somehow!)
Let's delve further into the Capitalist point of view:
Big tech is the victim of regulation! (Actually they are just winning in the free market, don't regulate them bro!) Parler & Gab are promoting violence and hate! When Facebook and Twitter allow people to post beheadings, murders & start violent insurrections in capitals, they've got section 230 immunity bro! -Spoken like a true capitalist.
Conservative point of view:
Hey we're all for capitalism and conserving something and we don't seem to see how technology actually undermines our faux-conservatism. Or as someone smarter than yours-truly said:
The conservatives are fools: They whine about the decay of traditional values, yet they enthusiastically support technological progress and economic growth. Apparently it never occurs to them that you can't make rapid, drastic changes in the technology and the economy of a society without causing rapid changes in all other aspects of the society as well, and that such rapid changes inevitably break down traditional values. -Uncle Ted
Yes, they all may at times decry when they are silenced by Big Tech. But wait, if your message is so weak, doesn't, "Might make Right"? Don't Capitalists need to compete in the Free Market of Ideas like the rest of us plebs? Don't they deserve to be losers if the idea they espouse sounds so shitty to the majority of voters?
So in short, the Capitalists support the same system which silences their point of view, the free market of ideas. In the free market, especially the free market of ideas, egalitarianism wins. The exact opposite of capitalism. How could the capitalist be so naive to not see this? In the free market of ideas capitalism and anti-egalitarianism becomes literal hate-speech. No company or platform, focused on financial wealth & growth, can support that of course! Because they'd lose the… Oh my God! Just the thought of it is so horrific to my former Silicon Valley engineer-capitalist-self, They would lose the, Oh So Precious... Consumer!
Who would then buy & use my product?! My product would be limited to some evil hateful fringe-customer, like some awkward white-soap company. How the hell am I going to make the Benjamin$ without ma$$ appeal!
Not to say that Capitalism wouldn't be an awesome system if everyone was awesome. But everyone is not awesome. Not in the least. As Capitalists know, people have different levels of awesomeness. People are not at all equal, and so the mass of losers is going to call your "free-market" literal hate speech.
Conclusion:
Why do most capitalists suck and fall for this trick?
Hint: It's not their bad architecture. Although that is part of it.
It is their desire to win in a free market that they cannot win. In the free market of ideas, anti-egalitarian capitalism is a big loser.
Second part of the trick, you'll even find Capitalists defending big-tech, “censorship-by-proxy”, that is the system's 2nd neatest trick in a nutshell.
Side note: For all the Marxists that enjoyed this piece I won't even bother spending an entire article critiquing your ideology. I will just say, as Jonathan Bowden had said: "Oh egalitarianism. There’s nothing more aesthetically sterile and boring than that."
