I was thinking about this the other day. It really is interesting how Covid played out. Boomers who amassed wealth during their entire lifetime, without year-long shutdowns affecting their businesses (they even had Woodstock during the Hong Kong flu of 69! way-to-go dudes!). Yet, now that they have amassed that wealth, they want to save their own lives. Which is totally rational by the way, I would do the same. But now young people, who have not created wealth yet, are supposed to stay home and receive printed checks from an inflationary-government.
I've never understood this about the younger generation. Why are they not more enraged at the boomers? The generation that benefited from the wealth following World War II. A generation that benefited from all the Keynesian economics of the 20th century.
And now too the young folk will want to benefit from the same economics. But where will the wealth come from this time? Walmart? Amazon? Google? Apple? The only businesses left open have been the big-box stores & big-tech.
I'm no Marxist, But if you really think about it, can you really blame the younger generation for falling prey to Karl's swagger? Especially in light of the current situation.
Imagine for a moment, growing up, going to college, working some shitty job, saving up, then going to start your own small business, like any good young entrepreneur should, only to find you've been cock-blocked. Your business shut down and thrown into turmoil. Your business licenses taken away if you dare not comply.
Did the boomers ever have to deal with this? No, I guess they didn't. But this is the first time we've had such narcissistic retirees at the helm.
I remember once back when I was an engineer a boomer explained to me how the real world worked, after he was done railing against mp3's, he dropped some real truth-bombs on me. He said that all the big businesses are harvesting the ideas of the current youth. What an idiot I thought he was, I still think it... He cannot be right, can he? I remember also thinking at the time, what a depressing concept from this Silicon-Valley Boomer.
I thought then, and mostly still think now, that the world is about harvesting my own knowledge and benefiting from my own brain. Come to find out, according to this Director-level manager, making money was about harvesting the brains of others. Screw him...
There's a memorable character in the book Atlas Shrugged, a book made by an Autist showing a world in which Autists should flourish, but where the Normies rule the world, so the Autists revolt. A character named Professor Hugh Akston. Since the world is crumbling, and society doesn't really care about Professor Akston's awesome philosophy, he is going to do something else. He is going to flip the best damn burgers in Wyoming.
If society no longer deserves his knowledge, his brain-power, he won't give it to them... Screw them!
Betrayal
Will this backfire on the boomers? Will the young plebs really revolt this time?
Nah, that is where technology comes in. People, young & old, are fat, dumb and happy, especially with endless games & entertainment, both social & political, to keep them preoccupied.
Here is how it will backfire on the boomers though. The young people will vote for Marxists. The cultural-rot of our betrayed society will be felt at the ballot-box. It will be like the "Summer of 69" all over again, just with less public fornication, and more Tik-Tok videos. The Boomers are not the only ones trying to self-preserve their lives. "Where is my damned universal income & stimulus" will be the battle cry.
Brrrrrrrrrrrrr..... fire up the $$ printers.
Cost of Goods goes up?
I have been hearing about incoming rampant inflation my whole damn life, yet it never happens. Can China & the developing countries keep making our consumer-crap for cheaper and cheaper and accept worthless Treasury Notes as collateral? Probably.
Can Farmers keep producing food for cheap? Maybe, if they keep getting bigger and bigger, owned by less and less producers. Well that and if you, the consumer, keeps wanting to buy their hormone-laden anti-biotic cocktail-meats.
At some point though this ride really does have to come to an end. Perhaps this time, the printing of money, will be the ultimate Tax on the Boomers savings.
The Gamer Youth
Awhile back someone sent me this 3-hour long YouTube gamer manifesto some guy spent a year making. This dude has like 1-million subscribers (Apparently we have more gamers than farmers in this world).
His well thought out rant basically summarized to:
"Video Games have made me happier than anything else in this Society. It has fulfilled a power-process for me. Uncle Ted & Karl Marx were right. Move back in with your parents, eat Cheetos and play video games the rest of your life. Do it for the lulz Boys!"
Wow, how depressing a thought…
But is it not true for this next generation? I basically came to the same conclusion working in Silicon Valley, except I left Society and became a Farmer. I may not be a Gamer, but I really can relate to the general theme of his overall screed.
When a Society and the System which everyone supports and votes for betrays you, What else but Self-Preservation?
After-all, that is why the Boomers locked themselves indoors for the last year.
